There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.
—Martha Graham (dancer and choreographer)
This session will take place on three consecutive Mondays beginning September 16, 6-8pm
The next workshop topic has arrived:
Costume—(which, loosely translated is: outfit worn to create character.)
Traveling this summer I had the pleasure of seeing Naked Illusion at the Provincetown Film Festival and even got to meet Bob Mackie in person! For those who may not know who he is, he’s been a costume designer, designing for Cher, Carol Burnet, Elton John, Pink, Miley Cyrus, and others for years. He just received the Lifetime Achievement award and a Tony nomination for The Cher Show on Broadway. In this documentary he said in his humble sweet way something like, I look to where my costume can connect the person to her/his confidence and unleash it. And I thought, hey, that’s what we’ve been trying to do in our workshops! Connect with the truth of who we are and unleash it.
In this workshop series we’ll be connecting with some of our lost, hidden and denied characters via writing and costume and artwork.
Sound scary? I know the feeling.
Want to unleash and be free? Please come.
